We speak a lot of GCC’s in India. However, a majority of them are offshore centres for foreign organizations.
I strongly feel there is tremendous opportunity for large Indian conglomerates to move to a GCC model and reap the benefits.
There are three areas where these organizations can maximize their investment:
Firstly, review of process, people and technology will open a Pandora’s box for opportunities to leapfrog the organization maturity curve. While cost arbitrage may not be an immediate enticing factor, the process standardization will provide enough savings to fuel other strategic objectives. I believe there will be significant benefits accruing due to reduction in fraud and other compliance issues. It might surprise you that the Sales and Distribution throws up more surprises than Procurement does – all these findings will come to light once these efforts are initiated.
Secondly, India is leading the tech 4.0 journey in more ways than one. Let’s leverage our experienced resources for supporting the organization digital intervention agenda including next gen tech solutions. Large scale deployments will help organizations get a better implementation economics. Majority of the tech alliances will benefit from such a move. I also feel that the benefits will have a trickle effect on the entire business ecosystem.
Thirdly, India has improved on ease of doing business and other indices as per Transparency International reports. A GCC will definitely support the organization’s ESG journey. At least the focus on ‘G’ will dramatically improve! BRSR is focused on the top 1000 as of now! Forget the remaining ones, are the next 1000 ready to start this journey.
While I write more focused from the listed organization point of view, I believe private and family owned enterprises will similarly benefit from these initiatives.
